A lot of no name players we’ll probably wont hear from again this year but there are a couple to keep an eye on.
RHP
John Axford – Just signed to a Minor league deal, has a good chance of making the 25.
Rafael Betancourt – If Raffy can re-capture his command and velocity he had before his elbow injury, he’d be a welcome addition to the Rockies bullpen. Betancourt is fourth on the Rockies all time saves list.
Jon Gray – Pending any injuries, with the signing of Kyle Kendrick the Rockies may not have room for their top prospect to join the team to start the season. It’s up to Gray to change their minds.
LHP
Aaron Laffey – If Laffey finds his way onto Colorado’s 25 man roster it will be his seventh team in eight years.
John Lannan – Another journeyman pitcher but it seems like guys like this stick around and end up pitching too many games for the Rockies.
IF
Omar Quintanilla – A familiar face returns to Salt River Fields and Omar’s versitility to play three infield positions will keep him in the conversation late into Spring training.
Matt McBride – I only mention him because he’s the last remaining piece Colorado received from the Ubaldo Jimenez trade. Yup, thats it.
C
Tom Murphy, Ryan Casteel – Couple of prospects to keep an eye on here. Colorado has placed band-aids behind the plate the last few years and will continue to do so in 2014 signing Nick Hundley, and returning with Michael McKenry and Wilin Rosario. If the Rockies decide to move any of these three for pitching help, look for them to get some time in 2014.
All Rockies players will report to spring training February 26th.
