The Colorado Rockies activated catcher Tony Wolters from the disabled list after playing two rehab games for the Albuquerque Isotopes over the weekend.
To make room on the roster for Wolters, the Rockies sent down catcher Dustin Garneau. The 28-year-old back-up, Garneau, is hitting .233 with one home run and five RBI through 18 games for the big league club this year.
Wolters missed nine games recovering from a concussion and figures to slot back in as the backup backstop for the Rockies going forward. He is currently hitting .217 with 14 runs scored and three stolen bases in 31 games. Nick Hundley figures to remain the club’s starting catcher. He is currently hitting .262 with two home runs and nine RBI in 20 games after missing a month with an oblique injury.
Hopefully, there are no lingering effects from the concussion for Wolters, who is still searching for his first home run of the season and looking for a more prominent role in the lineup.
