Rockie dogs, surfing pooches and a howling wolf star at Bark In The Park

DENVER – On a night where a wolf was on the mound, dogs paraded the grandstand and warning track. It was the 2017 edition of Bark In The Park on Wednesday at Coors Field.

On most days in Denver it’s Dinger’s whose bones we speak of but against the Braves, any talk of bones would’ve set the park into a full bark.

But it wasn’t bones that set the park amuck it was the howling sound after six strikeouts recorded by Jon ‘Gray Wolf’ Gray. The Wolf of Blake Street was joined by our new friends, Bodhi, Cuddy, Lulu and many more as 30,695 humans watched the Colorado Rockies take on Atlanta.

Lulu, winner of the Rockies’ Bark In The Park ‘best in show’ in 2015 sported a Dinger hat and a pup jersey. Best known as ‘three legged Dinger dog’ around Coors Field the nine-year-old German Shepherd mix visited the Ballpark on Blake for the fourth straight year.

She made friends with Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood, and “she loves it.” While it was referring to the day, it’s obvious this pooch loves most things.

Speaking of Colorado’s starting pitchers, rookies Jeff Hoffman and Kyle Freeland had their dogs near the dugout for photo ops before first pitch. As seen on Twitter, each is very supportive of their baseball playing family members.

Next, another Rockies connection was met by yours truly. Cuddy the dog, named after Michael Cuddyer, was making her first appearance at the ballfields. The five-year-old Black Lab’s Mom and Dad moved from Minnesota in 2011 just before Cuddyer. They rescued their high energy doggo from Foothills Animal shelter.

A potentially famous pupper was in the house, well at least he saw some TV time. Bodhi, a 14-month-old Vizsla with some major connections made it onto AT&T Sports Network in hist first time at Dog Day.

“He was on television and he was an angel,” Jenny Cavnar AT&T Sports Network talent and more importantly Bodhi’s mom said. “Steve (her husband) held a ball by the camera and Bodhi stood there staring at the camera.”

“We’re so proud of him, he’s going to be a star child,” she said.

Oh yeah, and some of our furry friends hit the waves too.

While the score of the ballgame is lopsided in the Rockies favor the real score was 12/10 for the dogs. Because after all, why wouldn’t a couple of dogs help guide us through the dog days of summer.
