USA Today’s Sam Amick is reporting that the Denver Nuggets are still “very much in play” for unrestricted free agent Danilo Gallinari‘s services. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski also reports that Denver “remains very interested in bringing back Gallinari.”
With Denver considered the favorite to acquire Paul Millsap and also holding interest in free agent point guard George Hill, it is hard to imagine the Nuggets having enough cap space to also sign Gallinari, who is reportedly looking for a four-year deal worth upwards of $100 million.
But Gallinari’s market and Denver’s actual interest in Hill could waver.
Gallinari has long loved the city of Denver and he has been vocal about being open to sticking with the Nuggets organization but it seems that without taking a fairly sizable hometown discount, it would be nearly impossible to sign the veteran forward without shedding quite a bit of salary.
With around nine teams reportedly interested in Gallinari, including the Los Angeles Clippers, who have a meeting with the swingman on Sunday, the Sacramento Kings and the Boston Celtics, it seems that it would be difficult to convince Gallinari to sign for below market value and, without that luxury, Denver will be unable to sign one of Hill or Millsap.
