The Denver Nuggets have a free agent meeting scheduled for Saturday with Paul Millsap, according to The Salt Lake Tribune’s Tony Jones.
Millsap, 32, has been high on the Nuggets’ target list for quite some time after Denver nearly traded for the four-time All-Star on multiple occasions over the past year. The 6-foot-8 power forward averaged 18.1 points and 7.7 rebounds on 44.2 percent shooting from the field and 31.1 percent three last season.
After Blake Griffin, another Nuggets free agent target, reportedly agreed to a maximum five-year, $173 million contract with the Clippers earlier on Friday and the Oklahoma City Thunder reportedly pulled off a stunning trade for Paul George, the Nuggets have to keep pace in a competitive Northwest Division and Western Conference.
According to Frank Isola, the Nuggets are “front runners” for Millsap along with Minnesota.
Another divisional opponent, the Minnesota Timberwolves, traded for three-time All-Star Jimmy Butler earlier this week. The Nuggets have also expressed interest in free agent point guard George Hill according to Jones.
The Nuggets, armed with up to roughly $40 million in cap room, can offer Millsap a max contract that would total $148,995,000 over 4 years.
Year 1: $34,650,000
Year 2: $36,382,500
Year 3: $38,115,000
Year 4: $39,847,500
Millsap will meet with the Phoenix Suns, who can also offer a max contract, on Sunday per Jones.
