Report: Juancho Hernangomez signs rookie deal

No. 15 overall pick Juancho Hernangomez has signed his rookie-scale deal, according to Eric Pincus. The Nuggets have now signed all three of their first-round picks.

Hernangomez, the No. 15 overall pick in June’s draft, is coming off an impressive showing at Summer League where he averaged 10.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and shot 54.5 percent from the field in five games. He’s displayed an innate basketball IQ and a great feel for the game, but it’s not known how much playing time he’ll receive in Denver, at least initially.

Without a significant trade, the Nuggets will come to training camp with a fairly established rotation.

Another year in Spain would certainly give Hernangomez more playing time, but bringing him to Denver will get him ingratiated into the Nuggets culture and will keep him around the young core of this team from a young age. He’ll also get a chance to work on his body with an NBA-level strength program and  trainers, access he might not have gotten overseas.

BSN Denver spoke to Hernangomez at Summer League mini-camp, where he mentioned that Denver’s roster, stocked full of players from international backgrounds, feels like ‘familia.’
