Jamal Murray is the second of the Denver Nuggets’ three first-round picks to sign his rookie contract.
Murray, the No. 7 overall pick in June’s draft, averaged 19.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists per game, shot 42.5 percent from the field and 27.6 percent from three at the Las Vegas Summer League. He will enter training camp as one of the first guards off the bench for head coach Michael Malone.
No. 19 overall pick Malik Beasley signed his rookie deal at Summer League but didn’t play as he’s currently rehabbing from offseason surgery for a stress fracture in his right leg. The Nuggets simply want to take it slow with Beasley who will be healthy and a full participant at training camp.
Juancho Hernangomez is Denver’s lone first-round pick who’s yet to sign on for next season. The Nuggets may stash him overseas for at least part of the 2016-17 season, or elect to have the 20-year-old on the opening night roster after an impressive showing at Summer League.
Second-round pick Petr Cornelie is also unsigned but is expected play overseas next year.
The Denver Post was the first to report that Murray has signed.
