REPORT: Colorado Rockies trade for another left-handed reliever

According to Robert Murray of FanRag Sports the Colorado Rockies have traded for a left-handed pitcher.

Will Lamb has been in Triple-A for just over two months and is primarily a reliever but has started three contests. The stats point to those outings being spot starts but he does pitch multiple innings a lot. He was drafted in the second round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Clemson and is now 26-years-old. He was traded to the White Sox after the 2015 season for right-handed pitcher Myles Jaye.

It is unclear what the Rockies have given up at this time but Lamb does not need to be on the 40-man roster.

The Rockies have had talks with the White Sox in the past, including a conversation about Jose Quintana just a few weeks back. Colorado also acquired a now higher rated prospect in their own system in Yency Almonte for Tommy Kahnle just a few years back. That trade is important because it shows the Rockies have had success scouting the Sox farm system.

This comes almost a month to the day the Rockies acquired LHP Zac Rosscup from the Cubs. They have an abundance of lefties with Jake McGee, Mike Dunn, and Chris Rusin occupying relatively secure spots in the bullpen.

Lamb also played in the Arizona Fall League in 2013 where he got roughed up for 19 runs in 19-plus innings. That’s important because Jeff Bridich has shown a track record of liking players from the AFL.

This season Lamb has a 0-1 record and 5.92 ERA in 48.2 innings between Triple-A and Double-A. He’s striking out over nine an inning but also walking more than five a frame.
