According to a report by MLB.com’s Thomas Harding, the Colorado Rockies will cut former first round pick Kyle Parker. The newly signed Gerardo Parra will take Parker’s spot on the 40-man roster.

The outfielder and first basemen was drafted 26th overall in the 2010 entry draft. Parker has spent parts of two seasons in the majors and five full seasons in the minors. The right-handed hitting Parker played 64 games for the Rockies, hitting .182 with three home runs and 12 RBI. His action was very limited as the Rockies outfield became ever so crowded and he failed to make an impact. At first base, he was thought to be a solid platoon option but with the acquisition of Mark Reynolds, that role seems to be filled.

The 26-year old advanced quickly through the Rockies farm system due to his good bat but his trajectory stalled once he tried to make the jump from Triple-A to the majors. The former starting quarterback at Clemson now begins the unknown that is being designated for assignment which means he can either be waived, traded or outrighted to the minors sometime in the next 10 days.

The Rockies three-year deal with Parra was finalised earlier today. Colorado’s 40-man roster will be full with 40 players once the Parker move is official.
