Danilo Gallinari’s free agency has been full of twists and turns with the most recent report coming from Sam Amick of USA Today stating that the Los Angeles Clippers are searching for a third team to help facilitate a sign-and-trade that would send Gallinari to L.A.
For such a trade to be executed, Gallinari would have to approve a trade to the Clippers, who need to clear cap space to sign the forward, which is where the third team would come into play.
Amick also reports that the Sacramento Kings have fallen out of the race for Gallinari’s services and that a return to Denver “is still known to be a possibility”.
A sign-and-trade deal featuring three teams opens up a plethora of opportunities for the Nuggets. Denver desperately needs to consolidate their roster and a deal of this nature could allow for that. If there is a player that Denver can identify that they would like to acquire from either the third team or the Clippers, they could send additional players, with Gallinari, to clear up their roster.
Keep an eye on Patrick Beverly as a possible target, who was just recently acquired in the blockbuster trade that saw Chris Paul get traded to the Houston Rockets. Denver has been interested in the point guard market throughout free agency and POBO Tim Connelly has said time and time again this offseason that defense is one of their top priorities.
Beverley fits that mold.
