We at BSN Denver are running a series where we rank how valuable each of the Rockies’ 51 players was to the team in 2015. Value was calculated by statistics, viewing, and how memorable each player’s contributions were. The rankings will be from last to first, you may view the full rankings (here).

Player: Jorge Rondon

Stats: 1.0 IP, 90.00 ERA, 11.000 WHIP, FIP 10.13, ERA+ 7, BF 15, H 8, BB 3, K 1, WAR 0.0

Big Moment: May 1st, coming off of two days rest Rondon took to the mound for the 8th inning in a six to two ballgame in favor of the Padres. Trying to give the Rockies one last shot in the top half of the 9th in Petco Park he was set to face Will Middlebrooks, Alexi Amarista, and Cory Spangenberg. Rondon walked the first two, allowed an infield single, and that was just the start. Rondon did not record a single out allowing eight runs, seven of them earned, on five hits, and two walks. The Rockies lost 14-3, and Rondon was promptly designated for assignment.

Season Recap: In Rondon’s best appearance of the two he made with the Rockies he allowed three runs, all earned, on three hits. It’s easy to see why the Rockies parted ways so quickly from Rondon and it’s easy to see why BSN picked Jorge Rondon as the Colorado Rockies least valuable player of 2015!

What’s Ahead: He’s with the Baltimore Orioles now, and he hasn’t been half bad since joining their bullpen in August. More importantly Jorge Rondon takes the honor from Dan Serafini for Colorado Rockies all time worst ERA (minimum 0.1 innings pitched.)
