We at BSN Denver are running a series where we rank how valuable each of the Rockies’ 51 players was to the team in 2015. Value was calculated by statistics, viewing, and how memorable each player’s contributions were. The rankings will be from last to first, you may view the full rankings (here).
Player: Aaron Laffey
Stats: 7.1 IP, 3.68 ERA, 1.500 WHIP, FIP 5.73, ERA+ 132, BF 33, H 8, BB 3, K 3, WAR -0.1
Big Moment: July 10th, Laffey picks up the win in what would be the second game of a four game sweep of the Atlanta Braves. He wasn’t very good allowing three earned runs in 2.1 IP. In his season debut Laffey did however bridge the gap from Gonzalez Germen‘s spot start to the bullpen keeping the Rockies in the game.
Season Recap: Laffey did what was needed and was good minor league depth for the Rockies, pitching in 30 games, 27 of them in Albuquerque and three in Colorado. His ERA for the Isotopes was a solid 3.90. He was called upon to eat seven innings, and did just that, the only reason he is so low on the list is because he only played in three games.
What’s Ahead: He’s on the Rockies 40 man and they can bring him back for cheap if they would like. The Colorado Rockies will always need pitching depth like Laffey provided them. He is also a good veteran to have around a AAA clubhouse.
