We at BSN Denver are running a series where we rank how valuable each of the Rockies’ 51 players was to the team in 2015. Value was calculated by statistics, viewing, and how memorable each player’s contributions were. The rankings will be from last to first, you may view the full rankings (here).
Player: Kenny Roberts
Stats: (Rockies) 9 G, 9.1 IP, 5.79 ERA, 1.607 WHIP, FIP 3.03, ERA+ 83, BF 43, H 13, BB 2, K 5, WAR 0.1
Big Moment: May 14th, the Rockies are in Los Angeles facing the Dodgers while in the midst of a season high 11 game losing streak. Roberts comes in to relive Chad Bettis who has left the Rockies down 4-2. Things were looking bleek as the Rockies stranded the bases loaded with one out in the top of the 6th. Roberts pitched a scoreless 6th and 7th, and in the 9th inning Carlos Gonzalez hit a three run home run to end the Rockies losing streak.
Season Recap: Roberts spent most of the year in AAA Albuquerque, throwing 31.2 innings with a 5.12 ERA and 1.705 WHIP. He had 1-3 record, and his performance was indicative of the Isotopes bullpen this year which was not very good. In his short time with the Rockies it was more of the same from Roberts, competent at times, bad at times, but overall just okay. He was waived by the Rockies at the end of August and was picked up by Philadelphia.
What’s Ahead: Roberts will continue his career in Philadelphia as a member of the Phillies. He made six appearances for them allowing five earned runs. Roberts has been outrighted to the minors and off of the 40 man roster for the Phillies and he has been exposed to waivers once again.
