We at BSN Denver are running a series where we rank how valuable each of the Rockies’ 51 players was to the team in 2015. Value was calculated by statistics, viewing, and how memorable each player’s contributions were. The rankings will be from last to first, you may view the full rankings (here).
Player: Matt McBride
Stats: 20 G, 43 PA, .167 AVG, 186 OBP, 353 SLG, HR 0, RBI 0, wRC+ -25, UZR 0.1 WAR -0.5
Big Moment: He didn’t really have one??? He had seven hits on the season, two came on August 22nd against the Mets. This was the only time McBride had more than one hit in a game, and the Rockies still lost by the score of 14-9. Which was funny because they lost by that exact score for two straight days.
Season Recap: McBride played 78 games for the AAA Isotopes slashing .328/.380/.549, while providing sound defense at first base and left field. It’s the fourth season in a row he has produced at the AAA level in a full season. The now 30 year old has only spent 83 days in the big leagues in his career and is the last piece of the Ubaldo Jimenez trade that is still left in the Rockies organization. He got the call up this year when Drew Stubbs was cut, and McBride has spent parts of 2012, 2014, and 2015 on the Rockies. Each time has been short, and this year, in limited action he was the worst position player on the team.
What’s Ahead: McBride has once again been removed from the 40 man roster and he will face minor league free agency this offseason. He isn’t part of the Rockies future however he has consistently provided depth for the organization.
