We at BSN Denver are running a series where we rank how valuable each of the Colorado Rockies’ 51 players was to the team in 2015. Value was calculated by statistics, viewing, and how memorable each player’s contributions were. The rankings will be from last to first, you may view the full rankings (here).

Player: Kyle Parker

Stats: 46 G, 112 PA, .179 AVG, .223 OBP, .311 SLG, 3 HR, 11 RBI, 26 wRC+, -0.3 UZR (OF), -0.7 WAR

Big Moment: August 22nd, Chris Rusin coming off a complete game shutout was pitching for the Rockies, it didn’t go as well for him as the prior start did. He allowed 11 earned runs in just two innings. Parker in the game tried to keep the Rockies in it by providing offense in the form of two extra base hits. He went 2-for-3, driving in four runs, three of which came on a game-tying, bases clearing triple in the bottom half of the 2nd inning. The Rockies still lost 9 to 14.

Season Recap: Parker, the former Rockies first round pick got his first extended look in the big leagues in 2015 joining the club full time at the start of August. Parker, an athletic right handed bat who plays both outfield and first base spent most of the season with Triple-A Albuquerque. For the Isotopes he played in 93 games, hitting .280/.326/.431, with 9 HR, and 58 RBI. He had a solid year in AAA, nothing to write home about but it was his time to be called up. Since the time of his call up he didn’t do anything to justify being in the majors. He was worse than okay, however he did, and probably still does deserve a chance to show he can be a successful big leaguer.

What’s Ahead: I think the Rockies will give Parker one more chance to show than he can fit into their plans. At this point Parker is turning into a depth piece. After two spans with the big club he has not yet proven to even be replacement level, but a right handed bat is something the Rockies need in both the outfield and at first base. With the expected departure of Wilin Rosario, at the very least Parker will look to compete for a role that entails him as a bench bat/platoon option in 2016.
