We at BSN Denver are running a series where we rank how valuable each of the Colorado Rockies’ 51 players was to the team in 2015. Value was calculated by statistics, viewing, and how memorable each player’s contributions were. The rankings will be from last to first, you may view the full rankings (here)
Player: Brooks Brown
Stats: 36 G, 33 IP, 1-3, 4.91 ERA, 1.455 WHIP, 4.26 FIP, 96 ERA+, 5.5 K/9, 4.4 BB/9, 10 Holds, 0.1 WAR
Big Moment: May 31, the Rockies are in Philadelphia facing the Phillies at Citizens Bank Ballpark. With a 4-1 lead, Walt Weiss turns the ball over to Brown. Chris Rusin has left him a jam, bases loaded with no outs. In three pitches, Brown strikes out Cameron Rupp swinging, in five pitches he gets Darin Ruf to strikeout swinging, and in three more pitches he strikes out Ben Revere swinging. Base loaded, 12 pitches, three strikeouts, no runs.
He became the second Rockie ever to accomplish the feat of inheriting three runners and not allowing a single one to score while recording three outs. He became the first Rockies pitcher to accomplish that feat via the strikeout.
Season Recap: He played 16 games for Albuquerque along with the 36 for the Rockies. At times over the past two years he has looked like an elite reliever, however in 2015 his strikeout rate dropped and his walk rate increased considerably. The 30-year old right-hander proved to be one of the better options coming out of the Rockies bad bullpen. He’s thrown in 64 games, (59 innings) over the past two years for the Rockies with a 3.97 ERA, and a 1.237 WHIP.
What’s Ahead: The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed him off of outright waivers and he is on their 40-man roster. LA is looking to revamp their bullpen so Brown has a good chance of factoring into their bullpen in 2016.
