The Colorado State men’s basketball team will be without one of the best point guards in the country for the foreseeable future. 

DNVR has confirmed that senior point guard Isaiah Stevens recently broke his foot and will have surgery this week to repair the injury. CSU later confirmed the news via release.

“First and foremost, myself and the team feel terrible for Isaiah. He is a special player and a tremendous leader. We are confident that Isaiah will get through this and make a full recovery,” said head coach Niko Medved via press release. “While we know that his presence and leadership will be missed, I know this team will respond. We will continue to work diligently and we are really excited to get this season started.”

Stevens has been a star since breaking out in the 2019-20 season when he was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year. Over his career the 6-foot-0, 180-pound guard has averaged 14.4 points per game on 46 percent shooting from the floor. He has also averaged 4.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds over the last three seasons. Without David Roddy in the picture though, Isaiah Stevens was poised for a big season and very likely would have put up career numbers.

It’s unclear how much time Stevens will miss with the injury — the hope is that CSU will have him back by the conference slate — but without him in the lineup the Rams are expected to start true freshman PG Tavi Jackson. A three-star recruit out of Las Vegas High School, Jackson also held offers from Pacific, Siena and Wyoming, according to 247Sports.
