Kyan Evans was named the Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year.

The senior guard from Kansas City, Mo. was already a four-time all-conference selection and three-time all-state honoree. After leading the way for a dominant Staley High School team that is currently 28-2 and will be playing for a State Championship on Friday, Evans now has the honor of being recognized as one of the best prep players in the country as well. 

Looking at his numbers this season — 12.4 points, 6.7 assists, 4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game — it’s easy to see the type of versatility that Evans brings to the floor. As Niko Medved raved about when Evans signed back in November, the 6-foot-2 guard can not only shoot but also play-make for others. 

“He has a high IQ and the intangibles you look for in a point guard. We can’t wait for him to join our program,” Medved said via press release. 

In addition to the success he’s had with his high school team, Evans has also had quite the AAU career with Mokan Elite. They won the title at Nike’s prestigious Peach Jam last July.

The program, which is well known for producing high level talent, has former players that include Trae Young, Michael Porter Jr, Jalen Green and Christian Braun. Former Nevada star Grant Sherfield also used to play for Mokan Elite.

While we don’t want to put too lofty of expectations on someone before they even get to campus, Evans certainly seems like he has a chance to come in and immediately be impactful for the Green & Gold. Much like Isaiah Stevens and David Roddy back in the day, Evans’ basketball IQ is beyond his years. His athleticism really stands out when you watch him on video too.
