Why not CSU?

Colorado State is 2-0 for the first time in 15 years and there’s a buzz in Fort Collins right now that hasn’t been felt — going into Week 3 at least — since Jim McElwain’s third year with the program (2014), if not going all the way back to when Sonny Lubick was still on the sideline (1993-2007).

With a 58-24 beatdown of Southern Utah on Saturday evening, Jim Mora became the first CSU coach since Bob Davis in 1947 to win the first two games of his tenure. Davis beat the Colorado School of Mines before taking down Drake on the road that year. And the 1947 Aggies, donning pumpkin and alfalfa, preceded to go 5-4-1.

Seeing the sea of orange in the stands, feeling the energy in the crowd, the atmosphere for Ag Day was electric. Of course, that was only amplified by an offensive performance in which CSU produced 678 yards and scored seven touchdowns. The defense forced another four turnovers as well, though a couple of breakdowns in the middle of the field were unnerving before buckling down and only allowing 3 points in the second half.

While there are things to work on, like defensive consistency and sustained traction in the rushing attack, the explosive plays from Hejny & Co. have been jaw-dropping.
