Colorado State has added a late commitment to its 2024 class. Owen Long, a 6-foot-2, 204-pound prospect out of Whittier, Calif., announced via Twitter that he will sign with the Rams.

Long, a three-star prospect on 247Sports, initially committed to Nevada a couple of weeks back but recently took an official visit to CSU. With about 24 hours to go until National Signing Day, the versatile athlete made his allegiance to the Green & Gold official. 

Along with CSU and Nevada, Long also holds offers from Air Force, Army and Washington State, among others. 

As a two-way player for Whittier High School, Long played running back and safety, and he was quite productive at both positions. He rushed for over 1,400 yards and 26 touchdowns as a senior this past fall. He recorded 139 total tackles, 15 pass breakups and a pair of interceptions on the defensive side as well.

Long is expected to play linebacker for the Rams, which continues a trend in recent cycles of CSU looking for versatile athletes to transition to the position. Jaden Landrum, Niko Lopez and Buom Jock are just a few examples of players that had offensive backgrounds before the defensive staff brought them in to play linebacker for the Rams. 

Watching Long on Hudl, you can see what intrigues the staff about his potential at the position. He’s a guy that can cover a ton of ground going East to West and demonstrates nice instincts in coverage. He’s an absolute missile going downhill, though. 

He will need to put on some size — as just about all high school prospects do — but Long is a really explosive runner and shows no qualms about playing with physicality. I really like how he projects at linebacker in Freddie Banks’ system. 

Dagan Myers bumped up to 4-star recruit 

Dagan Myers is the highest-rated local prospect for the 2024 cycle on 247Sports.

After entering his senior year as an unranked player, Myers is now listed as a four-star recruit by the major recruiting site. He’s the only four-star player from Colorado this cycle. 

With Myers receiving a major bump in recruiting status, CSU officially signed three of the top 20 players coming out of Colorado. Jay Norvell has signed at least two of the top 20 in every cycle since he’s come over from Nevada.

Out of the top 12 prospects in the state, the Rams signed two of the three that did not go to power five schools. Neither Wyoming or CU signed a top 20 player from Colorado in the 2024 cycle.
