Former SMU wide receiver Dylan Goffney announced he will transfer to Colorado State on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-1, 213-pound receiver chose CSU over offers from multiple Mountain West programs, including Fresno State and San Diego State. Arizona State, Cal, Cincinnati and Pitt were interested in him as well, among others. Alas, Goffney elected to take his talents to Fort Collins, where he will have an opportunity to make plays in the ‘Air Raid’ with Clay Millen.

Coming out of Bridgeland High School in Cypress, TX, Goffney was rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports in the 2021 cycle.

In 30 career games for Bridgeland, Goffney recorded 2,736 yards on 162 receptions. He had 37 touchdown receptions over three seasons too, according to MaxPreps. In three years as a starter, Goffney never finished with a single-digit touchdown total — 10 was the fewest he had in any given year.

Since arriving at SMU prior to the 2021 season, Goffney has played in 19 games at the FBS level. He has 32 receptions for 500 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his collegiate career.

His best games in terms of statistical production this past season were the wins over Navy (Oct. 14) and Houston (Nov. 05) — both of which he reached the century mark in, finishing with 116 yards and 100 yards, respectively. He had a career-high 10 catches for 88 yards in the 2021 win over UFC as well. Ram fans hope to see much more of that this fall.

With the addition of Goffney, Jay Norvell can feel pretty good about the state of the wide receiver room going into the summer. The Rams have a stable of up-and-coming pass catchers that should be due for breakout seasons. Not to mention the best wide receiver in the league in Tory Horton. Goffney is another tool in the chest though. And you can never have too many of those.
