The last time that Colorado State started 2-0, I was a sophomore in high school, who had just received his driver’s license. Everyone still carried iPods around in their pockets, and Donald Trump was just a reality TV star.
The last time that CSU was 2-0 in football, Netflix primarily delivered DVD’s through the mail, gas was less than $4 per gallon nationally, and $10 at Taco Bell would get you a king’s feast. It was a different world the last time that CSU was a 2-0 football team.
In 2011, Tim Miles was only just beginning to turn things around for the men’s basketball program, Jim McElwain was still Nick Saban’s offensive coordinator at Alabama, and Becky Hammon was a full three years away from retirement from her playing career, let alone becoming one of the most iconic women’s basketball coaches of the 21st century.
What the 2026 Rams are doing right now is essentially unprecedented in the modern era. The current freshman class were about 4 years old when CSU was last 2-0. So as far as starting with a bang goes, the Jim Mora era could not have been scripted any better than this.
