Rams Recruiting Update: CSU Football continues to build up an impressive 2021 class

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — While most of us are stuck indoors, playing video games and eating our weight in various snacks, Steve Addazio’s staff has been busy attracting talent for the Rams’ 2021 recruiting class.

Over the last couple of weeks, Colorado State football has received verbal commitments from a three-star cornerback and an all-state tight end — both out of Texas.

And as of this week, CSU has also picked up another verbal commitment from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. This time, a three-star center with great upside and a Power Five frame.

With the commitment of George Miki-Han, the aforementioned center, 247Sports currently has CSU’s 2021 class ranked as the best in the Mountain West and No. 70 overall in the country. Schools ranked behind CSU at the moment include Utah (83), Boise State (86) and Colorado (90).

Now obviously it’s way too early for the Ram faithful to start celebrating. Recruiting cycles are fluid and all it would take for CSU to drop is a program like Boise State picking up a four-star commit. And if we’re really being honest, until the Rams win actual games on the field and begin to contend for trophies, it’s all just hype.

But even if it is hype, it’s still encouraging to see a first-year staff getting it done on the recruiting trail. Addazio already secured a top-3 class in the Mountain West for 2020 (247Sports). What’s more, he did so on an extremely tight deadline.

And now amidst a global pandemic — Addazio and Co., are quietly and quickly putting together an impressive 2021 class.

Here’s a look at CSU’s current list of commitments for the 2021 cycle.

QB Luke McAllister

Luke McAllister was the first player to commit for the 2021 cycle — the Palmer Ridge High School standout announced his intent to sign with the Rams all the way back in November of 2019. What should be encouraging for the Ram Faithful, though, is the fact that McAllister’s loyalty to the green and gold did not waver through the staff change.

In 2019, McAllister’s junior year and first full season as the varsity starting quarterback, he guided the Bears to a 12-2 record and the program’s third consecutive 3A state championship. In the title game, McAllister was brilliant as he threw four touchdowns in a 35-13 victory over Pueblo South.

While he was particularly impressive in the title game, McAllister was extremely consistent throughout the season. In 14 games, he completed 136-of-223 attempts (60 percent) for 3,055 yards and an average of 18.9 yards per completion. But what really jumps out is the fact that his touchdown to interception ratio was nearly 7:1 with 34 TD’s and just four picks.

Finally, although this may not be something that can be measured, if his passion for CSU on Twitter is any indication of what he’s going to bring to the field on a weekly basis, it would not surprise me at all if he becomes the next beloved local star for the Rams — particularly if he has the same type of success through the air to accompany the swagger.

CB Lathan Adams

Lathan Adams was the first defensive player to commit to the 2021 class, doing so back on April 13. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound, defensive back had at least seven other reported offers, including Kansas, SMU and UNLV.

Drake Martinez announced his commitment on April 26, choosing CSU over South Florida, which was the first D1 program that offered him.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound, tight end out of St. Thomas High School in Houston, Texas is a converted wide receiver and put up big numbers as a junior. In 13 games, Martinez tied for second on the team with 49 receptions and finished with the second-most touchdown receptions on the squad as well (7).

In a recent interview with DNVR Rams, Martinez talked about his excitement for the future of the program and how he fell in love with the campus during his visit earlier this spring.

OL George Miki-Han

George Miki-Han is the latest product of Mater Dei High School to commit to Colorado State. Assuming he signs his National Letter of Intent, the 6-foot-1, 300-pound, center will reunite with his former high school teammate Tai Marks, who also signed with the Rams in 2020.

According to 247Sports, Miki-Han also holds offers from Bowling Green as well as Morgan State. Ranked a three-star prospect, Miki-Han is currently ranked as the 11th-best center in the nation for the 2021 recruiting cycle.
