DNVR Raptors Podcast: A Conversation With Doug Coil

Colton Strickler takes you through the big news in rugby this week with ‘The Breakdown’. Afterwards, he sits down for a conversation with Doug Coil, journalist and editor of djcoilrugby.com about Saturday’s Major League Rugby Collegiate Draft. Doug and Colton also talk about the expansion draft, the first-ever PRO Rugby match, and country music. Following the interview, Colton assigns some ‘Required Reading’ ahead of next week’s show.

Hey Colton, thanks for the ongoing rugby coverage. I am American but lived abroad the last 35 years, mostly all over Asia, but also a decade in London. Over that period I developed a passion for watching rugby, particularly international test matches. I find it’s the perfect combination of speed, power, aggression, skill, constant action and of course the internationals mean a lot of passion. Live rugby is great, but it’s really well suited for TV with constant action and the refs miked up which really draws you into the action.

I am back in CO for good now and was psyched about the chance to follow/watch the Raptors and was super psyched when DNVR picked up coverage. Then the bloody Raptors dumped the MLR.

I know you have addressed their decision a few times, and glad you continue with your efforts. But to ask the hard question, where do you think the whole Glendale situation goes? Will they just schedule a lot of friendlies? I see the Eagles have 7 internationals scheduled for the second half of 2020, is it likely you guys cover those like a local team (which they kind of are)? I see USA v Canada due to be played at Infinity Park in mid-August! That will be huge and it would be cool to get the DNVR community fully-engaged for that event. (Joint DNVR/Breck Brew tail gate?!) Anyway keen to hear your thoughts.

And thanks again for the coverage.

Hello DoubleD, Thank you for the questions. I missed this comment when I was recording this week’s podcast, but I will answer all of my questions to the best of my ability on next Friday’s show. I will keep the rugby content coming! Thanks for listening!
