It was a terrible horrible no-good very bad day at the ballpark for Antonio send a Tele.
He didn’t have good command or control of any of his pitches but the Rockies had to stick with him as the game spiraled out of control early and he had given up eight runs before the dust settled and he departed the game.
The ugly game got started in ugly fashion when Senzatela plunked Starling Marte with one out in the first then allowed him to swipe second.
He then threw a meatball that Gregory Polanco absolutely demolished for a long home run. He followed that up by walking Josh Bell and surrendering a double to Melky Cabrera and a single to Chris Moran.
Just like that, the Pirates were up 4-0.
He got through the second but fell apart again in the third. Bell greeted him with a double that was followed by three singles in a walk to run the score up to 7-0.
With the runs already piling up, Bud Black was hoping Senzatela could at least eat a few innings but he just couldn’t stop the bleeding, giving up one more run in the fourth on a double to Bell and a single for Moran before giving way to Chad Bettis.
Somehow, though, the Rockies got back into the game. At least, for a minute.
Bettis brought back some sanity to the mound and the Colorado offense came to life in the sixth.
After Bettis struck out, Ian Desmond got it started with a line drive double. Trevor Story ground out for the second out but the Rockies were nowhere near done.
David Dahl, Nolan Arenado, and Raimel Tapia each singled and Ryan McMahon drew a walk.
Brendan Rodgers played a pair with a single to center and Chris Iannetta reloaded the bases with a walk, suddenly bringing the tying run to the plate in the form of a pinch-hitting Daniel Murphy.
He didn’t tie it with a long ball but did make it a two-run game with another single, bringing Desmond back to the plate. But he ground out to end the rally.
The Pirates did not respond to kindly to the Rockies thinking they were back in the game.
They threw out a six-run inning of their own against Carlos Estevez, featuring home runs from Bell, Marte, and Bryan Reynolds to put the game away at a score of 14-6.
