In this original BSN Denver series, we take a look at some of the best Rockies’ photography of the last week as well as the top shot in the game of baseball.

Charlie Blackmon knocks one of his three hits on the night against the Dodgers, his MLB-leading 21st game with at least a trio of hits. It’s the most three-hit games by a Rockies player since Carlos González who had 22 such games in 2010. With 18 contests remaining, including 12 at home, Chuck Nazty has a good chance to at least tie CarGo’s mark.
If you thought the Rockies were phoning it in, this picture of Nolan Arenado after his fourth inning home run might change your mind. The solo shot, his 37th of the season, put ahead Colorado 2-0 against the Los Angeles; unfortunately, they did not hold onto the lead. Since August 1, Arenado is tied for the Major League lead in home runs (15) and ranks 11th (tied) in the National League in hitting with a .333 batting average.
Dodgers’ Joc Pederson wallops his second home run of the game to help set the NL record for homers in a single season with 250. The previous record of 249 was set by the Houston Astros in 2000 when they were members of the six-team NL Central. By the end of the week, Los Angeles had added five more long balls and sit at 255 with 17 games remaining on their schedule.
Trevor Story’s first inning stolen base not only helped Colorado manufacture a run in the pitcher-friendly Petco Park, but it made him only the second shortstop in MLB history to record two 30/20 seasons after Alex Rodriguez (1998-99). He’s also the first do that in consecutive seasons in Rockies’ franchise history and joins Dante Bichette (1994, ’96) and Carlos Gonzalez (2010-13) as the only players with multiple 20-20 campaigns.
Tim Melville gets some defensive support in the form of Raimel Tapia’s perfect strike from left field to catcher Dom Nunez, cutting down Padres’ Greg Garcia to preserve the scoreless first inning. Melville bounced back from a rough start at Coors Field against the Pirates to get one out away from a quality start, striking out a career-high eight batters. Jairo Diaz later secured his first career save in Colorado’s only victory of the week.
Wil Myers and company celebrate a 10th inning walk-off victory. In another low-scoring affair in SoCal, Peter Lambert gave up just a run over five innings and four relievers kept San Diego from scoring over the final frames before Jesus Tinoco, Sam Howard and Yency Almonte combined to give the Padres to go-ahead run. The loss completed an abysmal 1-6 road trip to drop the Rockies to 3-17 over their last 20 games.
Aaron Judge gestures to teammates in the third base dugout at Fenway Park to celebrate a franchise record 268th home run this season, breaking the mark of 267 set by the 2018 squad. While not the top total in MLB – that distinction goes to the Minnesota Twins and their 275 home runs – the Bronx Bombers have 18 more games to make up the difference and possibly become the first team to ever eclipse 300 homers in a season.
