For the second time in a row, this week’s PGA Tour Shot of the Week goes to Rory McIlroy.
In his Ryder Cup singles match against Patrick Reed of the United States, McIlroy was faced with a right-to-left breaking putt for birdie from 40-feet on the par-3 8th hole. From the front of the green, the third-ranked player in the world from Northern Ireland put an immaculate amount of pace on the ball and started it right on the optimal line as the ball gracefully fell into the heart of the cup.
Once the putt dropped, McIlroy went ballistic and roared as he put his right hand behind his ear and yelled “I can’t hear you!” towards the American crowd.
That putt would be crucial to keep the match all square through eight holes. Had McIlroy not made the putt, Reed could have been 1-up going into the 9th as he would go on to make the ensuing putt from 25-feet to halve the hole.
Despite Rory’s valiant efforts, Europe wasn’t able to come back from behind like they did in 2012, as the United States won their first Ryder Cup since 2008 by the score of 17-11.
Here is the incredible putt from McIlroy:
