Peyton Manning's agent says Broncos, not Manning, will be forced into a decision

Last week, Woody Paige of the Denver Post reported that Peyton Manning would retire by the end of this week. As we sit here on Saturday afternoon, no decision out of Manning. In fact, signs are now pointing to Manning not making a decision before the March 9 deadline, when his massive contract becomes guaranteed.

On Friday, Manning’s agent was on with Dan Sileo of The Mighty 1090 in San Diego and he alluded to the future hall-of-famer not making a decision anytime soon.

“There’s a time when the contract becomes guaranteed, so [the Broncos will] just have to make a move before then,” he explained. “[Manning is] completely aware of the guarantee obligation from the club on a date certain, and he knows that there has to be some accommodation prior to that.”

If this is the case, the most likely scenario will be the Broncos releasing their quarterback, who certainly did not play up to the $19 million he will be due this season if they don’t. It’s not the fairytale ending the world so adamantly craves, but it’s a reminder that the fans nor the media have any control over the story of an athlete’s career. If Peyton want’s to play then he’s going to play but it sounds like he still hasn’t made that decision.

“I couldn’t answer that accurately,” said Condon of if he was aware of any decision. “I know better than to ask him. I understand that when he makes up his mind as to what he wants to do, he’s gonna let me know. But as of now, he wanted to take his time and be patient with the decision and make sure that he is sure.”

“Let’s face it, he loves it,” added the agent. “He loves being the locker room, he loves working out and, of course, the interaction with his teammates, and he loves the game.”

While all along it’s looked like Peyton Manning that was going to make a decision, as the days slowly tick away it looks like the Denver Broncos will be the only ones forced into a decision.
