The bad news keeps getting worse for the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning. Specifically, for Manning.
According to an update released by the team, Manning will sit out at least the next two weeks of competition and is in a walking cast.
“Peyton and I had a good visit today, and we’ve got a plan in place for his recovery,” Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said. “His foot will be in a cast for at least a week, but he’ll be able to be part of meetings and do some workouts with the rest of the team.
“We expect him to be unavailable for at least a couple of games. We’ll proceed from there and will continue to support him as he does everything he can to get healthy.”
Manning was put in the walking cast by Dr. Robert Anderson who the 39-year old quarterback went to see for a second opinion on his torn plantar fascia. After the week in the cast, Manning will be able to begin rehabilitation and will look to play after at least two weeks of healing total.
With Manning sitting the bench — or watching from upstairs — the Broncos will work out former Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder. Ponder played from 2011-2014 with the Vikings, with 38 total games played. He’s thrown for 6,658 yards with 38 touchdowns and 36 interceptions, with his best year coming in 2012.
Brock Osweiler will start this Sunday night against the 10-0 New England Patriots.
