Drafting Dikembe Mutombo.

Love it. He’s such an iconic Nugget and is part of one of the top-2 moments in franchise history IMO. I think the last time he was at Ball Arena/Pepsi Center might have been when Denver retired his jersey in 2016. They should bring him back for a night.

I liked the nuggets as a kid, never loved them. Antonio Mcdysse (however that’s spelled) didn’t exactly get my blood boiling. Melo was cool and AI/Chauncey were fun but I still didn’t necessarily feel like they were my team. I’ve always been anti star ball and very anti iso ball. Hockey and the avs always came first. I loved teamwork.

Then Melo demanded a trade, I got to hate him, and the trade created a team I absolutely loved – the 2012, 57 win, gallo Lawson, Miller, faried, chandler team. Talk about teamwork. Gallos injury that year will always break my heart. Turned away again during the Shaw years but then we lucked into the ultimate team first star who is already in my pantheon of favorite athletes of all time- big honey. I will be diehard nuggets for as long as I have the privilege to watch him in our uniform.

The Melo trade was definitely a brutal gut punch but also somewhat of a galvanizing moment for Nuggets fans. I’ve heard countless stories like yours. With Jokic here I truly feel lucky to watch and cover this team. I know it will never get better than him and never take it for granted.

The ’94 team, in France everybody was falling for the Bullsmania, but I wanted my own guys, and I liked the core of young spectacular players around Mutombo, plus I liked the new unis

That’s an all-time zig when everyone else was zagging. Passing on the Bulls for a .500 Nuggets team must have taken some major cajones.

For me it was Dikembe. I grew up near Pittsburgh and we didn’t have a team. I watched a lot of NBA as a youth. Dikembe caught my eye and then I moved to Denver in 99. I’m now a season ticket holder and an avid DNVR fan. Nice work guys.

Appreciate that JRock. Love hearing about all the fans who got in the door with Dikembe. Makes me think that his top moments here aren’t celebrated or recognized enough.

Melo for sure. I was 10 when he was drafted so it was perfect timing to grow up with him and remember almost everything in those early years. But from that era my favorite nugget is by far JR Smith.

If I polled 10 friends who watched the Nuggets during the Melo years, I bet 7 or 8 of them would say their favorite player was JR. You’re not alone.

1993-1994 season lit the fire for me. Went to all of the home playoff games at McNichols and wore the same Nuggs shirt to school throughout the run. Flame almost extinguished after nearly a decade of suffering and then, boom, Melo landed in our lap after electrifying my imagination during Syracuse’s title run. Have been a diehard ever since. Melo broke my heart, but Jokic has made all of the ups and downs worth the ride. All hail the Soft God!

I only started following NBA at the time of The Bubble, and rooted for the Nuggets because I was already a Broncos fan, but I truly fell in love after Jamal’s iconic postgame interview following his 50 point performance in Game 6. Seeing that and the chemistry between him and Jok made me truly feel something about this team and the culture.

I first fell in love with the Nuggets during game 1 of the 2020 Jazz series, the first sports game I had ever watched, when Jamal Murray went off towards the end of the game. Later, I asked my then-boyfriend who the guy was that was scoring like crazy. He’s a Jazz fan, and answered “Donovan Mitchell,” to which I replied, “no, the one on the good team.” My love for Jamal and the Nuggets was solidified during game 6 of that series with Jamal’s epic performance and emotional interview, as the Nuggets won yet another potential elimination game. Seeing the team, led by Jamal Murray, come back from a 3-1 deficit when I myself was struggling, helped me find something worth fighting for too.

As much of a “bad word” his name has become in Denver, it’s Melo for me. Fell in love with him during the Syracuse title run and felt like it was destiny that I finally pay attention to my local NBA team when he was drafted here. He played so well his rookie year (should have been ROY IMO) and led the team to the playoffs for the first time in forever — and I was hooked!

Man I remember watching Kenneth Faried take the floor for the Nuggets and losing my mind at how hard that dude played. Dude was throwing down hammers and BATTLING for boards the whole time he was a Nugget and I always really appreciated the raw energy he brought. He was the first player that popped to me when I was educated enough to really understand what was going on in a basketball game.
