Tremendously well-researched article. I don’t actually think 25 million is too rich for Gallo, but at least the author gave an accurate report on his career to this point (elite offensive player/foul drawer, adapted well to an off-ball role with Jokic, formerly a very good defender until his ACL tear).

Injury prone since the Knicks and no weak side/help coming from him (slow). On the down hill slide from not a Star player (never was) . only fit would be a Championship running team thi9s season or next of the bench.

I don’t think it’s a good model to let your better players walk, but they do have Chandler, who provides insurance for Gallo today, but may put the Nuggets through the same thing next season when he’s a FA. Personally I’d trade Faried before either and just start them both. Gallo is probably still the smartest player on the team, although Jokic is certainly pressing him for that title. He clearly doesn’t deserve 25 million dollars per though, unless it’s just for next year and then reduces drastically. 25 million would be roughly 20-25 percent of a team’s cap, so nobody is giving Gallo that, If someone does, that’s crazy for a fringe, barely not an All Star type guy, who’s had serious injury issues. I think Barton and Faried are guys I’d move before Gallo because they aren’t as good. And speaking of injuries, Faried showed signs he’s beginning to break down physically last year. Same with Barton, he missed a lot of games and while being more athletic, isn’t a good defender. I think Gallo was better from Dec. 15th on without any doubt. Both Faried and Barton played less games than Gallo did last year, and far fewer MPG. The guys who really need to go are Barton and Plumlee in my opinion, neither make winning plays consistently, are easily replaced, and are due paydays that the Nuggets can’t afford to give. Same could be said about Gallo, but TC is going to look worse for not trading Gallo last year if this happens, then he did trading Nurkic within the division. Which was clearly a trade that came back to bite them in the ass already. I sincerely hope the Nuggets have more of a plan with more imagination than what I’ve seen from the media that covers this team. If not, despite drafting well, they’ll keep shooting themselves in the foot, I fear.

No man. He finally turned the corner these past two seasons and had his best seasons of his career, and NOW we should dump him? Makes no sense. Like it or not, Denver is looking to make the playoffs next year. Their relentless approach to being a middling team in the West is frustrating as hell but they won’t have a shot without Gallinari. His defense is pretty poor but all the mismatches he creates on offense easily puts him as the second best player on Denver. I think he’s willing to take a little bit of a paycut to stay in Denver and Denver should jump on the opportunity to re-sign him. Worst case scenario, no matter his contract, he can be traded down the line. Denver has spent so many seasons watching him progress, be injured, and finally for the past two seasons he has put it together. Letting him walk is not in the gameplan.

The article is well written and I understand and respect all your points, and quite honestly Gallo is my favorite player in the NBA and I’d love to see him on a contending team (not the Clippers) but there’s really no risk to re-signing him. Denver won’t be using that cap space on anyone relevant, the only option to me is Otto Porter but I think WAS will have no choice but to match any offer. So what else is there? Might as well keep Gallo and see what develops next year, then maybe use him as a trade chip down the line.
