Good thoughts. It’s still hard to tell with this current team. So many little parts. I don’t know why we keep fooling around with some of the younger guys because of their potential. I like Green and Harris, but potential is now; I think they should go. Losing Ty was devistating from an offensive perspective. Mudiay better get his shot down, or defenses will dare him and double on his drives, and there goes his effectiveness. This is not China.

Getting another 7 footer means who goes? You think they will get rid of JJ? They are afraid to. He is big and strong and can be a force; he’s just doesn’t have a high bb IQ. Most prognosticators don’t predict much for Denver this year, in spite of the new euro blood. I’ve seen hopes deciminated before. I would say that if Faried buys in and learns from Malone, ala Cousins, Gallo, Chandler and Nurkic stay healthy, Nurkic quits fouling, and Mudiay performs as expected, we can at least have fun. I just hope we don’t move from 27th best to 28th, like NBA columnists predict. I may have to watch George Karl’s talented team to see what he can do before I get too frustrated. I hope not.

Thanks Charlie.

Obviously the Nuggets would have to move two players at the moment (considering Papanikolaou is still on the roster) to make room for Withey. Hickson should be one. He should have been moved this summer at sometime. And for as good as Green was at Summer League, if it came down to him or Withey, I’d go Withey just because he satisfies a need for the Nuggets and has proven he can do at least one thing at a high level (block shots) in the NBA. However, given Papanikolaou’s inflated contract the Nuggets might try and move him instead.

I think you should hold out hope before deciding to write the Nuggets off. The national media is wrong about a lot of things all the time — sometimes really wrong. I don’t think the Nuggets are gonna blow people away and make the playoffs this year, but I do think they’ll be an exciting young team team that gives it their all on a nightly basis, which is really all you can ask for. I also think people, for whatever reason, totally underestimate how effective coaching can be in the NBA. It’s a player’s league, no doubt about it. But coaching has a huge impact and can totally take a team from one tier to the other. Just look at Golden State for example — or even the Nuggets under George Karl as opposed to Brian Shaw. From everything we know Michael Malone is a good, defensive-minded basketball coach and I’m excited to see what he can do.
