Denver is in the Driver’s Seat for a trade for Kyrie if Cleveland wants both young talent and quality veterans to make a last push for another Championship with Lebron this year. If Cleveland prioritizes young talent, they should get Wiggins back from Minnesota or some of Boston’s future draft picks. If Cleveland wants certain highly rated veterans, many teams could offer their best players for Kyrie.
Therefore, Denver’s inclusion of Chandler and Faried for the veteran component of the trade will strengthen Cleveland’s bench and simultaneously satisfy LeBron’s expectation to return to the Finals again with the owner’s need to have some quality replacements when LeBron eventually leaves town again in 2018. Denver’s real risk is which young players they should offer because in my opinion-BOTH JAMAL MURRAY and GARY HARRIS should be OFF THE TABLE and UNTOUCHABLE in these trade talks. Mudiay and Beasley are very good athletic prospects to combine in the trade with the veterans along with (2) future 1st Rd draft picks. Of course, some other team may have a better offer for 1 or 2 players in return who have elite talent. But, I doubt any other NBA team can offer a trade package in totality which provides the best combination of veterans and young talent for Cleveland. Denver’s rationale for keeping Murray and Harris whether or not they land Kyrie in a trade is that both of them will be elite combo guards in the Jokic/Malone system in Denver for the next 10 years. Who knows what Kyrie is going to think in the next two years? Therefore, keep the young core intact and continue to build from there.

Agreed, If they want to trade Murray, Harris, or Jokic I’d strongly disagree. Kyrie is an amazing talent, but Murray for him is a lateral move, possibly. While at the same time putting a lot of the upside potential the team has going for it, at risk. Kyrie didn’t help win many games before Lebron showed up with Kevin Love, that alone is worrisome. The Warriors are still a thing, no? Connelly needs to worry about the downside risks in any of these trades.

Why Murray? Why not Mudiay, Chandler, Barton and next years number 1 for Irving? seems like a great haul for one player?

Because there is absolutely no chance that Cleveland would take that package for him?

No chance? Really.. Maybe it’s because we as Nuggets fans feel like we have to “overpay”. I see this package as very similar if not better than what Minnesota gave up for Butler and Irving doesn’t play defense.. My prediction is that Murray will be as good or better than Irving in the next few years.. If they don’t take it oh well.. Irving will be a FA in 2 years and cause discord in the locker room.. Then we shall see what Cleveland gets for him m?

The Nuggets have been trying to give Faried’s contract away for years, he doesn’t have any value. Mudiay is useless for a team trying to win now, and one season of Wilson Chandler isn’t worth anything close to Kyrie Irving.

So Ryan you seem to be pretty sure of yourself on what Cleveland would be willing to trade Irving for. Do you want Irving on the nuggets? And if so who do you propose we give up for him? And if you say Murray, Harris or Jokic . I will say you are way over valuing Irving and I wouldn’t trade for her m then..Also, I put in a first round draft pick. Cleveland has Lebrun James so the win now statement is a bit ridiculous. They were in the Championship game for goodness sake.. They need solid supporting cast. Beyond James and Irving doesn’t exactly who else do they have on their team.. Chandler, Faried, Mudiay as a high ceiling young player and even any one of the other 8 PF on the nuggets would be an upgrade for Cleveland. Plus they may not have any better offers and may need to move him just so he doesn’t become a cancer.. Many possibilities

If you aren’t willing to give up Murray or Harris (or Jokic obviously) plus more assets it is not happening. You seem to expect the Cavs to basically give away one of the best players in the league.

July 26, 2017

Way to much to give up IMO for a guy I don’t think is that good a fit here. A great talent no doubt, but not what THIS team needs.

July 27, 2017

I’d be willing to trade Harris, Faried, and a 1st round pick for Irving. If they asked for another player, I’d offer one of the many PFs we have (except Juancho). Heck, I might even throw in a 2nd round pick. That’s the absolute max I would offer.
