Juancho Hernangomez, the No. 15 overall selection in Thursday’s NBA draft, will play for the Denver Nuggets at Summer League.
Hernangomez, 20, was a candidate for a roster spot with the Spanish national team at the Rio Olympics this summer but opted to play with the Nuggets at Summer League instead.
From the Spanish Basketball Federation:
“In the hours before the announcement of the list of players summoned for the preparation of the Olympic Games, and because of the circumstances of his election at the 15th position NBA draft, Juancho Hernangómez has been sent to the FEB its decision participate in the Summer League team franchise, which precludes its inclusion in the call for the selection.”
Hernangomez will almost surely join No. 7 overall pick Jamal Murray, Axel Toupane, and other July 8-18 in Las Vegas. Jimmer Fredette who lives in Colorado and has already worked out with the Nuggets this offseason, is rumored to play with Denver as well.
Former University of Colorado big man Josh Scott will also play with the Nuggets at Summer League, BSN Denver learned Saturday.

Juancho is going to have a real opportunity to capture 20-25 minutes of playing time just like the rest of the young players or other veterans who can be relied on to be the Nuggets “shooters”. I believe Calipari when he says that Murray will lead all rookies in scoring this year. Juancho is going to be other surprise…he is tall and quick enough to get his jumper looks and I think the international pros have more experience with shooting under pressure at a young age. Denver’s team defense still has a lot of maturing to do, but if our shooters can balance out the pick and roll game; then we should be able to get a 7th or 8th seed this year in the playoffs.
