Jokic had a subpar game, but some of the Nuggets recent trends have been much more concerning and Malone needs to be aware of what “the underlying current” is. We have had plenty enough games to understand WHO “The Core” of the Nuggets is when they play their best basketball. Jokic, Murray and Harris should always be the Nuggets leaders and the way that the Nuggets play on the court should feature their style of play.
What has disrupted that has been several things: 1. Chandler’s move back to SF since Millsap has returned. 2. The recent trend of more iso ball with Harris and Barton doing most of the scoring. 3. The reduction of minutes of Trey Lyles. 4. The return of Barton to the bench. 5. Murray deferring his scoring role because other guys want to score.
The bottom line is that Jokic plays better with a 3-guard lineup and a stretch 4 Period.
It is clear that Millsap greatly helps the defense, but the whole lineup cannot be reshuffled just because Millsap helps on the defensive end. If the whole team including the coach does not fully accept the hierarchy of The Core and the priorities of Jokic-ball, the Nuggets will struggle to make the playoffs.

Interestingly enough, all of these factors are a result of Milsap being back in the lineup.
