A detailed analysis of the detriments of having “roster overload”, yet Connelly and Malone are making decisions and setting expectations in order to improve the roster, the chemistry on the team and the results on the court: 1. The Plumlee/Nurkic trade improved Denver’s roster because Plumlee can play both PF and C while having a positive attitude about his role in the rotation. It does not matter how well Nurkic is playing for Portland-they have a different team…two all-star guards who Nurkic can screen for in the Pick and Roll. Portland would have had the same problem Denver did if they had to play two bigs at the same time who could not be fast enough to guard most stretch 4’s. Now if we lose Plumlee for nothing in free agency, then we lost the trade and decelerated our rebuild. I trust that Plumlee is worth having on the team when Lillard said that “he is the best teammate that I ever played with”. 2. I applaud Connelly overall in his selection of draft picks/trades and with how Coach Malone is setting his expectations for playing time. The #1 complaint from players/agents on every team every year is about playing time…that is why successful GM’s and Head Coaches bring their Big Boy pants to work everyday. Malone has transitioned from Nurkic/Jokic to having the best offense in the NBA since Jokic started at center exclusively while progressively demoting one #7 pick in Mudiay until he sharpens his game and progressively promoting another #7 pick in Murray who is showing talent and effort to be another gamechanger alongside Jokic. Just because there happens to be noise from other vets from time to time does not mean that Connelly and Malone cannot or will not continue to define a better rotation and roster.
In conclusion, with Connelly’s drafting and Malone’s coaching, I am not worried that the road “to the promised land” is too difficult or distant.

Good thesis, all the points are valid & well thought out.

I disagree, though, about Nurkic’s value. He is a streak shooter & an inconsistent player. The Nuggets gave him a chance, and he played his way out, got worse. Many good & mediocre NBA players are inconsistent. We’ll see, but Nurkic may also because rhythm

Dig the analysis. The Nugs need to appease Chandler when he comes back, and rectify the situation with Mudiay, who just turned 21 for f’sakes. I love the Nugs, but as you point out, it is perplexing that a player can go from starter to DNP-CP when healthy, i.e. Mudiay and Nurkic.Plus, Nurkic never showed this promise in a Nuggets uniform, and while I wish him the best, let’s see what he does over the long haul versus Plumlee.
