According to Shams Charania of RealGM.com, Denver Nuggets’ point guard Jameer Nelson will opt out of his current contract to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Per Charania:

Denver Nuggets guard Jameer Nelson is planning to opt out of his $2.85 million player option for the 2015-16 season to enter free agency, league sources told RealGM.

Nelson has not yet informed Nuggets officials of his final decision, but both sides have held discussions recently under the premise that the six-foot guard will enter the free-agent market and potentially continue negotiations with the team. Nelson has until June 29 to inform the Nuggets.

Nelson played the majority of his games last season in Denver averaging 9.6 points and 3.7 assists per game. If he intends to leave Denver this summer and if Tim Connelly decides to move Ty Lawson, the Nuggets would then have an opening at both starting point guard and backup point guard.

At this point it’s safe to say point guard is the most uncertain spot on the floor for the Nuggets heading into the upcoming draft and free agency.
