The Nuggets need to change their defensive scheme and they need to change it now. Too many times we double and triple team guys in the paint leaving BOTH corners wide open. This has been our scheme for at least two seasons (sell out to stop layups at the expense of leaving the most valuable shot in basketball wide open) and we win and lose games based on whether or not guys like Ingles and Clarkson can hit open corner threes. Those guys are hitting those shots and we are going to lose this series if we do not change the fundamental core of our defensive scheme.

Why are we having to learn the same lessons from last year’s playoffs all over again? 1) Milsap cannot be a starting 4 in this series 2) Plumlee is a 82 game player, he hasn’t dont anything notably bad, but like Milsap, he doesn’t force the Jazz to make any meaningful adjustments to their game plan 3) We need more playmaking on the court. When teams can put good defenders on Jokic and Murray, our offense just doesn’t run very smoothly.

We’re bigger, more versatile, and more athletic than the Jazz, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the way these games are playing out. Malone needs to be more creative in deploying lineups (Murray, PJ, MPJ, Grant, Jokic? Monte, PJ, Torrey, Grant, Milsap?) that combine playmaking, shooting, athleticism and D.

We’ve won 4 out of 5 games against them, so makes sense that Malone isn’t going to fix something that’s not broken, but would really like to see some more creativity on the coaching front to get ahead of the curve, not wait for the curve to beat us by 20+.
