My Eye Test sees the Nuggets better than the Lakers, Kings, Suns, Mavericks, Jazz and maybe the Pelicans this year. Here is an easy way to forecast how the Nuggets will defy the critics: First, last year’s Nuggets were at least just as talented as the Nugget team was in Shaw’s 1st year-they just tanked more games; therefore set the low bar for wins at 36 instead of 30. Now secondly, factor in all the relevant newcomers to the team that will be significant players (and coach) for Denver for the whole year–Mudiay (does not matter that Lawson is gone when you also have…), Nelson, Lavergne, Barton and Nokic while also including a restart in Harris and a rejuvenated Faried and a recovering Nurkic, topped off by a resounding YES for Malone. You easily can add 8 more wins to this year’s total. Therefore, a 44-38 record is within reach as is an 8th playoff seed as well. Happy Trails to the Western Conference Playoffs Nuggets Fans!!!

I like the way you laid that out! I definitely have my days where I see things similarly to you, but I also try to remember that growing pains will happen and some guys may miss time. I don’t know… I do think 40+ wins could be possible – would need to sneak in some Ws this first month against tough schedule. Could see Denver sneak up on some teams though…

I agree with you guys…my analysis requires that both Nelson and Lavergne extend their excellent, fundamental play from the preseason to the regular season. I think that will happen and that Lavergne will earn a few votes for Most Improved Player this season.

I said it a couple weeks ago, if the NBA were like MLB then Joffrey would be a candidate for ROY – really like the way he is playing. Can it carry over once teams start game planning for him and trying to force him into spots where he’s uncomfortable? He seems crafty enough to find his way.

I enjoy the optimism this time of year. I think these guys should challenge for a playoff spot if the 8th seed is 41-45 wins. Mostly because all the teams slotted 8-15 have just as serious questions as the Nuggets do. With the altitude at home, Malone’s biggest test will be reestablishing the home court advantage that we saw disappear under Coach Shaw. If he can find a way to do that, then I’ll bet we take down Vegas in a landslide. Seeing how that momentum will likely give a significant confidence boost to this fairly young squad and add up to some good carryover games on the road.

November is going to be tough, but again they might be able to sneak up on a few teams early… maybe. Just hoping that team stays with it if Nov. doesn’t go their way.
