There is no one who better encapsulates Denver Basketball than Chauncey Billups. On the latest episode of “Peel the Onion Podcast“, Denver sports insider and BSN Denver contributor Brandon Krisztal sat down with “Mr. Big Shot” himself for a very candid conversation about life after basketball and what Denver means to him.

This podcast is a must listen for any basketball fan but especially a fan of Chauncey or the city of Denver. Chauncey openly discusses many topics including his decision to leave Colorado for the NBA, adjusting to NBA life, learning to be a pro from Sam Mitchell, both comebacks to Denver and much more.

Near the end of the conversation, Krisztal gets Billups to open up about who he thinks should be the next head coach of the Denver Nuggets.”There’s two guys I would say. One, I think Melvin has done a fantastic job. You give him a training camp, give him his own staff, he can bring guys in that are like minded with him. I think Melvin could do a very good job here.” Billups told Krisztal.

Billups played 51 games for Denver in Hunt’s first season as a Nuggets assistant under George Karl. Later that season, Billups was then thrown into the Carmelo Anthony trade and was re-united with the other coach he thinks would be a good fit for the Nuggets. “If you don’t want to go with a first time guy, I like Mike D’Antoni. I played for him twice, I think he’s a very good coach. I think the way the team needs to play here, up and down, with the talent that they have here right now – which probably should change a little bit – but Mike D’Antoni would be a fantastic choice.”

Chauncey casually puts on his GM hat and adds that he thinks the talent on the Nuggets roster should change a little bit. A role many would like to see Billups add to his resume and he is open to the idea. “That desire hasn’t changed, the desire to be in a front office and help build a team.” Here’s hoping “Smooth” gets a chance to call the big shots in Denver someday.
