What is different about this year’s Nuggets in comparison to most Nugget teams in the last 30 years–is that their team Defense will be their Gold Standard by which to judge them. Past Nugget teams mostly relied on their centers (Cooper, Mutombo and Camby) as rim-protectors while the majority of their teammates played average to Ole’ defense. Even though we do not have a big time shot blocking team today-Look at what we do have defensively: Mudiay/Harris best defensive backcourt since Lever/T.R. Dunn; Chandler can defend 3 positions at a high level; Lauvergne has enough strength and plenty of effort to be a positional defender and rebounder at PF and C; Faried getting praise this year so far for his focus and energy on D–a few nights he just will not play much based on particular matchups–no biggie though; Gallinari can be scrappy with his length; and Nurkic can hold the block with anyone due to his size and lateral quickness. Team Defense is the fastest way that the Nuggets can improve and it does not require a Superstar to have success. Denver has decent talent offensively and defensively, yet watch how they gel defensively under Malone and establish their identity through Defense.

Great points! Part of me is more worried about their offense than defense, which speaks volumes about the impact Malone and his philosophies have already had on this team. However, the interior combination of Faried and Lauvergne isn’t an ideal pairing. Can’t wait to see how it shakes out.
