Denver Nuggets starting shooting guard Gary Harris will miss his fourth consecutive game Friday against the Washington Wizards with a right knee sprain/strain, the team announced Thursday.
The team hopes Harris can return at some point during the Nuggets’ current seven-game road trip. Denver has stops in Philadelphia, Toronto and Oklahoma City remaining before returning home for an April 1 matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Harris, 23, injured his knee after completing a dunk during the fourth quarter of Denver’s 120-113 win over the Detroit Pistons on March 15. X-rays on Harris’ knee came back negative, and he was diagnosed with a knee strain/sprain following an MRI that night.
Harris is leading the Nuggets in scoring (17.7) and minutes (34.8) this season.
Will Barton is expected to start again Friday against the Wizards in Harris’ place. The sixth-man turned starter is averaging a career-high 15.0 points per game this season. Barton is coming off a 16-point effort in Denver’s 135-102 win in Chicago on Wednesday.
Backup point guard Devin Harris will also continue to see increased minutes in Harris’ absence. The veteran has played at least 25 minutes in all three games that Harris has missed.
