The Nuggets returned home to Denver after a five game, Garth Brooks induced, road trip to play host to the lowly Philadelphia 76ers. Entering wednesday’s game the Sixers had lost 16 straight on the road, and were coming to town on the second night of a back-to-back. If there ever is a recipe for some “home cooking” it looked like the Nuggets had it right in front of them. Unfortunately no one told the Nuggets about that.
In the 99-85 blowout loss, Denver tied a franchise record for fewest points scored in a quarter with the measly 9 points they were able to hoist up in the fourth. Nuggets interim coach Melvin Hunt wasn’t pleased with the effort. “There are some basketball icons rolling over their graves right now, from Philadelphia all the way to Denver.”
Sixers rookie forward Robert Covington scored a game high 25 points on 8-17 shooting, with 6-11 from behind the arc. As a team, Philadelphia shot 14-34 from three.
Denver’s home record wasn’t the only casualty in the loss, Danilo Gallanari suffered a shoulder injury in the third quarter that forced him to miss the rest of the game. Gallo has been playing great lately, but said after the game that his shoulder has been bothering him a bit but “it shouldn’t be anything to worry about.”
The Nuggets (27-45) will host the Jazz (31-40) at Pepsi Center Friday night. The two teams have split the season series so far.
