DENVER — The Nuggets will hold training camp for the 2017-18 season at the University of Colorado – Boulder, Michael Malone said Tuesday on Altitude Radio.

After training at the University of Creighton prior to the 2016-17 season, the Nuggets plan to stay a little closer to home next fall. Boulder is just a 40-minute or so drive from downtown Denver.

“Next year we’re going to hold our training camp at CU-Boulder,” Malone said. “Tad Boyle and I have talked and they’ve been nice enough to afford us that opportunity.”

The Nuggets held preseason games in Boulder in two of the past three seasons; hosting the Portland Trail Blazers in 2015 and the Chicago Bulls in 2016.

“We had a great experience in Omaha this past year at Creighton and they were nice enough to host us,” Malone said. “It’s even nicer to stay home and closer to home and train in the altitude and at a great facility and a great town as Boulder.”

“The other thing that you don’t get when you leave the area is that you don’t get to train in the altitude,” Malone continued. “This is where we play and we have to be acclimated to be able to play in this environment in the altitude. So I’m excited about that.”

This season, the Nuggets have started to rediscover the advantages of playing a mile above sea level. Denver is above .500 at home for the first time in three years and currently playing at the league’s eighth-fastest pace, per NBA.com.
