The Denver Nuggets recalled No. 24 overall pick Tyler Lydon from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers Wednesday because of an ankle injury the rookie suffered in the G League. The Nuggets wanted to bring Lydon back to Denver and get him healthy under the watchful eye of their own training staff.
“One of the reasons he was recalled was he sprained his ankle,” Nuggets’ coach Michael Malone said. “We just wanted to get him back, have our guys look at him, get our hands on him and help him get healthy as soon as possible.”
In his first appearance with the Vipers, Lydon started at power forward and scored 12 points on 5-10 shooting, went 1-3 from three-point range, registered six rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
The Nuggets also have two-way players Torrey Craig and Monte Morris in the G League to start the season. Craig, who’s playing with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, is averaging 19.5 points 4.5 rebounds, four steals, three assists, and 4.5 blocks through two games while in three games with Rio Grande Valley, Morris is averaging 5.5 points and 3.0 assists.
Morris, who Denver selected 51st overall in this summer’s draft, had his best G League outing on Wednesday when he scored 14 points to go with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
