Nuggets pick up option on Michael Malone's contract

According to Altitude’s Christopher Dempsey, the Nuggets have exercised an option in head coach Michael Malone’s contract, keeping him under salary through the 2018-19 season.

Malone was hired by the Nuggets prior to the 2015-16 season after a short-lived stint in Sacramento and reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with Denver. The Queens, New York native just wrapped up his second season in Denver and has amassed a 73-91 record in Denver.

This past season, Malone oversaw the No. 5 ranked offense in the league, led by 22-year-old center Nikola Jokic.

Denver enters next season with their eyes on the organization’s first playoff appearance in the last five years.
