Maybe next year, right?
It’s never too early to think about next season, especially if you’re a team not participating in this year’s playoffs. On cue, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook released their opening odds for next season’s NBA title.
Expectations in Denver may be that the Nuggets compete for the eighth seed in the Western Conference, but Vegas doesn’t expect much out of a Nuggets roster that will most likely rely on their youth as they did last season.
The Nuggets open with 100-1 odds of lifting the Larry O’Brien Trophy in 2017.
The Warriors will once again start off as favorites followed by the Cavs, who barring an unexpected move by Kevin Durant in free agency or a summer coup by Pat Riley, should have another enjoyable road to the Finals.
However, there’s some decent value to be found if you look farther down the list.
A young Timberwolves squad, boasting potential through the roof is at 60-1, and could be a Jimmy Butler away from seeing the second round of the playoffs next season. The steady Jazz should be in the playoffs if they stay healthy and present a lot of matchup problems for the opposition with their frontline and long, athletic wings. The Wizards are at 100-1, but are a Kevin Durant signing away from moving up towards the 25-1 group or higher. Also, Portland, who could be a Dwight Howard or Al Horford away from advancing a round farther in the playoffs is a decent option if you have some petty cash laying around.
