Nuggets get another shooter at 24th overall

With the 24th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, the Denver Nuggets select Tyler Lydon out of Syracuse after trading the No. 13 pick to the Utah Jazz.

Lydon, 21, averaged 13.2 points on 47.3 percent shooting from the field and 39.5 percent from three, to go with 8.6 rebounds in his sophomore season. The 6-foot-10 four-man shot 83.6 percent from the line in 36.1 minutes per game.

The All-ACC honorable as a sophomore, Lydon was one of 12 players on the 2014 USA U-18 National Team. Last year at Syracuse, Lydon scored a season-high 29 points against Georgetown and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds against Georgia Tech.

In the middle of his second season in upstate New York, Lydon played 11 consecutive games, a stretch covering 450 minutes straight.

Curious about Lydon’s role with the Nuggets? Don’t expect him to play much next season. He’ll go to Summer League with the team but then park himself on the bench behind a deep rotation.

If he gets on the floor, expect Lydon to stay on the perimeter. He’s a pick-and-pop big who will make his living from beyond the arc. Think Ryan Anderson when projecting Lydon’s ceiling.

The Nuggets’ No. 1 offense after Dec. 15 last season just added some more firepower.

Denver also acquired power forward Trey Lyles from Utah in the draft-night trade.
