DENVER — The Denver Nuggets have acquired a veteran backup point guard after weeks of rumblings they were in the market for one, multiple reports indicated Thursday. The trade has since been confirmed to BSN Denver.
The Nuggets received Devin Harris from the Dallas Mavericks in a deal that will send Emmanuel Mudiay to the New York Knicks and Doug McDermott to the Dallas Mavericks. Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the three-team deal Thursday.
Harris, 34, represents a reliable option at backup point guard. The 14-year NBA veteran is averaging 8.5 points and 1.9 assist in Dallas this season. The deal also means Mudiay, who Denver drafted seventh overall in 2015, gets a fresh start in New York.
Mudiay was drafted as the point guard of the future in Denver, but he didn’t pan out in the Mile High City. Last year, he was supplanted in the rotation by Jamal Murray. He was given the opportunity to be the Nuggets’ backup point guard this season but fell out of the rotation.
