Nikola Jokic won’t be getting too much rest during the upcoming All-Star break.
Jokic, who was selected to his first All-Star game last week, was named Tuesday as a participant in the Taco Bells Skills Challenge at All-Star Weekend which runs from Feb 15-17 in Charlotte. Mike Conley, Luka Doncic, De’Aaron Fox, Kyle Kuzma, Jayson Tatum, Nikola Vucevic and Trae Young round out the eight-man field that will take part in the Feb. 16 appetizer to the 3-point and dunk contests.
The Nuggets’ big man took part in the event in 2017. He beat Anthony Davis in the first round before falling to Kristaps Porzingis in the semifinals.
Jamal Murray participated in the Skills Challenge last year but fell in the semifinals to eventual winner Spencer Dinwiddie.
The draft for Sunday’s All-Star game — the main event of the weekend — takes place on Thursday with LeBron James and Giannis Antetkounmpo as the two captains. James has the first pick.
No Nuggets players were chosen for the three-point shootout or slam dunk contest, although Monte Morris is a candidate to replace injured Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball in the Rising Stars Challenge.
